I've been working for this wonderful organization for 10 years and still with a lot of passion and pleasure. Every working day is different and I face new challenges. It is so great that children can receive care at home in their own familiar and safe environment. It is a challenge for me to ensure that this remains a safe environment. How beautiful it is that a child is terrified of a certain action and with the right approach slowly gains more and more confidence and is less anxious.
In 10 years, an awful lot has changed within child care. In the beginning we had a lot of long-term care and I was usually with a child for several hours at a time. Now it is mostly short duration care, you come for a certain action and then move on to the next child. Care at home, at grandparents' daycare, at school and even at a campground when a family is on vacation. I come everywhere to provide care, so that the child can just join in with everything other children are doing. The other day I was with a child and had to come right up and check on him. He had just had his birthday and received a birthday garland from KinderThuisZorg with Bink and Bibi on it. He really had to tell me that my colleague was Bink because she was always funny. And I was Bibi because I am so sweet. That makes you melt, doesn't it?
Of course we also come at times when a child is not doing well or when a child is in the terminal phase and dies. These are difficult and sad moments, but also so incredibly beautiful and grateful to be there for a child and parents and to ensure that they can see this process as a happy memory, despite the pain and sorrow.
From KinderThuisZorg I got the opportunity to do the hbo-v and develop myself further. Last July 2021 I completed it. Extremely proud that I persevered, despite all the setbacks I had during the training. I am much more confident now. I've become more critical in the care I provide and I'm doing more to immerse myself in professional literature to get even more out of the wonderful profession of pediatric nursing! Because that's what it is. The most beautiful profession there is!
